The Chamber Leadership Alliance’s First Stop: Houston!

The Chamber Leadership Alliance (CLA) is a collaboration of the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. (USBC), the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), and the U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation (USPAACC). The CLA in partnership with Wells Fargo has launched a new Chamber Leadership Development Program (CLDP) to support diverse entrepreneurs in the U.S. It will be hosting the very first CLDP training on June 4th and 5th in Houston, Texas in partnership with the U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation. This program not only serves to work with local and state chamber leaders, but also with diverse business advocacy organizations in order to grow and improve their programs and initiatives to better serve their local diverse businesses.

Participants will gain knowledge on the four core competencies of substantial chamber leadership. These tools include fundraising, grant writing, and access to capital, strategic planning and business development, leadership development and chamber governance, and administration and sustainability. Participants will learn valuable skills such as establishing a brand, how to demonstrate accountability to funders, and attaining different management styles. Training is taught by academics and practitioner experts such as Ward Pennebaker from Pennebaker, Kenneth Anderson Taylor and William A. Brown from Texas A& M University and Steven W. Mumford from the University of New Orleans. In addition to this event, CLA will be traveling to different areas of the U.S. later this year with the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc., and the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. In addition to the in-person sessions, there will be two virtual sessions in 2019. Additional information on the virtual sessions are forthcoming.
